Department of Marketing
The Department of Marketing is home to some of the most interesting, challenging and important topics in business education. Virtually every aspect of business entails marketing in some form. Marketing involves the creation and delivery of exceptional value by fulfilling the needs and wants of a variety of groups, as well as the needs of an organization. Marketing draws from psychology, sociology, economics and elsewhere to better understand the basic needs and motivations of an organization’s customers, employees or stakeholders.
Our programs in Marketing, Professional Sales and Retail Management are built around a dynamic, relationship-centered approach to marketing and offer a challenging curriculum designed to prepare students for exciting careers in a variety of marketing fields. The department works with its Sales Institute Advisory Council, Global Supply Chain Management Advisory Council and other stakeholders to keep its curriculum relevant, and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and opportunities for students to network with industry executives.
Related Academic Program
Students are encouraged to enrich their education through the college’s internship program and international programs. Many networking and leadership opportunities are available through student organizations, such as the American Marketing Association, Sales Club and the International Business Association, and our events. Additionally, the college’s Student Leadership Council sponsors several networking events and student engagement programs to assist students in the transition from college to careers. Generous scholarships help support students along the way.
Marketing faculty members have won prestigious teaching and service awards, and produce some of the most impactful research in the world. Relative to other marketing departments, Florida State’s is unique in terms of composition and focus. In addition to faculty in the traditional areas of marketing and consumer behavior, the department also houses faculty in operations management, operations research, supply chain management, sales management, transformative consumer research and multinational business. The department’s ability to leverage synergies among these academic areas is a key competitive advantage and strength. Marketing faculty members recently were ranked the 28th most cited marketing faculty in the world. Faculty research in the sales area is enhanced through the department’s center, FSU Sales Institute.
