 Background 

N. Terry Godbold, President and Senior Actuary for Godbold, Malpere & Co., a consulting firm he founded in late 1994 in conjunction with Mary Jo Godbold, ACAS, MAAA, has merged his company with Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. He has become one of six principal owners of the firm with offices across the United States. His Atlanta office will remain in Atlanta and will become the largest office outside of Pinnacle's primary office in Bloomington, Illinois. With this merger, Pinnacle will become one of the largest casualty actuarial consulting firms in the U.S. His current clients include insurance companies, residual market mechanisms, self-insured programs, pools and associations.Godbold is very active in the Florida market as it relates to Homeowners Insurance reserves and catastrophe exposures and Florida Workers Compensation issues. He is also an adjunct actuary for three regional auditing/accounting firms in support of their auditing of various insurance enterprises. His background covers more than 42 years of actuarial experience including pricing, rate filings, loss reserve analysis, financial and management information systems with several major insurance carriers and two actuarial consulting firms.

Prior to the formation of Godbold, Malpere and Co. he was a Partner and Consulting Actuary for nine years with Ernst & Young, where he directed the Southern Actuarial Consulting Practice based in Atlanta, Ga. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Mr. Godbold held the position of Vice President and Chief Casualty Actuary with Capital Holding Corporation, one of America's largest stockholders owned insurance conglomerates. In addition to his experience with Capital Holding, Mr. Godbold worked for two of the largest casualty insurance companies in the United States: Hartford Insurance Group and Great American Insurance Company. Mr. Godbold has served on various ISO actuarial and underwriting committees including the personal lines actuarial committee.

Mr. Godbold has recently been named to the Board of Directors, Interboro Insurance Company, Long Island, New York, a recent rehabilitated personal lines insurance company from New York.

 A representative selection from his consulting background includes the following:

  • Participated in two major rehabilitation/liquidation efforts in areas of reserve analysis, reinsurance recoverable and systems review.
  • Currently assisting the rehabilitator in Georgia for two workers compensation insurance companies.
  • Provided funding and loss reserve analysis for a number of school boards, governmental entities and municipalities with major emphasis on workers compensation and professional liability.
  • Certified loss reserves for major insurance companies, self-insured groups, pools and associations.
  • Provided funding studies for hospitals and physician groups self-insuring professional liability exposures.
  • Provided expert testimony on behalf of insurance companies and alternative risk programs in regards to loss reserves, reinsurance, and pricing issues.
  • Provided actuarial support in areas of reinsurance and loss reserve evaluations for potential acquisition of four major clients.
  • Serves as an adjunct actuary for two regional auditing/accounting firms in support of the audits of various insurance enterprises.
  • Performed extensive rate level reviews for a variety of lines of business and clients. Prepared and filed various rate filings to state insurance departments. Experience includes both personal and commercial lines (with particular emphasis on workers compensation and professional liability issues) including both standard and non-standard automobile, homeowners and dwelling fire, professional liability for hospitals and physicians, workers compensation, general liability, public official's liability and property insurance.
  • Performed both reserve and rate studies for specialty lines such as automobile extended service agreements, underground storage tanks, reclamation bonds, surety, bail bonds, long haul trucking and title insurance.
  • Performed both funding and feasibility studies for several major self-insured groups for long haul trucking regarding appropriate retention levels, alternative risk financing and excess insurance in preparation for possible formation of captive or risk retention groups.

Mr. Godbold is a Fellow in the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, an Associate in the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Risk and Insurance with a minor in Mathematics from Florida State University. Mr. Godbold has spoken at numerous professional and industry-specific educational programs involving professional management, loss reserving analysis and management information requirements. He was very active in speaking before groups regarding the impact of GASB 10-34 on governmental self-insured groups. He is former Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Casualty Actuarial Loss Reserve Seminar, the premier continuing education seminar for casualty actuaries involved with loss reserves.
