Dr. Paterson started his academic career at Florida State university. Nearly twenty years later, he is a full professor and an Arthur Andersen Professor of Accounting. His primary teaching interest is tax, but FSU has called upon him to teach a dozen different courses including doctoral seminars, graduate and undergraduate tax, graduate and undergraduate financial accounting, and online courses he developed for the Risk Management and Insurance department's Masters degree program and others for the College of Business’ Business Certificate Program. He has been nominated for teaching awards on several occasions and won a University Teaching Award from Florida State University in 2008. He has also been recognized for his success as a researcher. He has published his academic research in accounting’s top-tier journals, presented his work at major universities and national forums, and has won an award for his research.
