TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —Florida State University and the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, housed in FSU’s College of Business, have created a new day of celebration, Seminole 100. Each year, Seminole 100 will recognize the top 100 fastest-growing businesses in America owned by Florida State University alumni.
“On FSU’s campus and throughout the State of Florida, important work is being done to educate students on how to become leading entrepreneurs,” said Randy Blass, executive director of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship. “Seminole 100 will allow us to see the results of that rigorous academic environment, and it will stand as a lasting tribute to the entrepreneurial legacy of FSU.”
The inaugural Seminole 100 will include businesses of all sizes, from a range of industries. Privately held businesses owned by FSU alumni that have generated at least $100,000 in revenue in 2013 and at least $2 million in revenue in 2016 are eligible to apply until April 30, 2017. In partnership with FSU, Inc. magazine will accept all applications, verify all financial information submitted by each company and rank the businesses based on growth during a three-year period. Businesses that qualify will also be named to Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 5000, a comprehensive list of the 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the nation.
The new initiative is funded and organized by the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship as part of the $100 million gift agreement between Jan Moran and Florida State University finalized in December 2015. In addition to supplying further funding for the Jim Moran Institute’s 20-year mission of cultivating entrepreneurs and funding the new Jim Moran School of Entrepreneurship, the gift provides for an annual celebration on FSU’s campus to honor entrepreneurs who have graduated from the university.
The public, including FSU alumni and friends, is invited to celebrate the inaugural Seminole 100 honorees at the Florida State University Alumni Center in spring 2018. The evening will begin with a reception, followed by dinner and an awards ceremony.
