Small Business Executive Program Graduate's Entertainment Business Booming

                                                           Wilson Jennifer (003)

Tallahassee, Fla.
— Since establishing operations in South Florida in 2009, the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship at Florida State University has helped more than 300 business owners and nonprofit CEOs gain knowledge and resources to grow their organization. One graduate, Jennifer Wilson, was able to improve her general business knowledge by using the expertise available in the Jim Moran Institute’s Small Business Executive Program (SBEP).

Wilson, founder of All About Entertainment, a professional entertainment company specializing in children’s birthday parties serving the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach county areas, came to the SBEP in fall 2015 as a highly creative person with a lack of business operations knowledge. She credits the SBEP with providing her the business education to become successful.

“I had a degree in communications, but had never taken any business courses and didn’t know what I was doing with the business aspect of the company,” Wilson said. “SBEP taught me how to put together a strategic plan with specific goals, and, most importantly, a pricing structure that would make my company profitable.”

A former Disney employee who realized her passion of entertaining children while working for the company, Wilson opened All About Entertainment in 2003. While she always felt comfortable planning the details of each event the company booked, it wasn’t until the SBEP provided her with resources for funding, human resources, banking and legal advice that she truly felt she had taken control of her business.

“I had been to a couple of seminars that claimed to offer the same kind of business education,” said Wilson. “But they were not nearly as comprehensive and only lasted one or two days. With SBEP it’s more of a classroom setting and you know you’re going to have an opportunity to learn over several months.”

Today, All About Entertainment has expanded to provide professional entertainment and rentals to corporate and public events for the South Florida area. The company has been featured on NBC and serves more than twelve corporate clients including Aflac, Microsoft, Simon Property Group and Nordstrom’s.

“There was not one class I didn’t thoroughly love,” Wilson said. “To this day I use the strategic planning packet they gave us in our first class. Whether it be a member of the Jim Moran Institute staff, or fellow classmates, everybody I met during the program continues to be a great resource.”

Wilson continues to stay involved with the Jim Moran Institute and has joined the Peer2Peer program.  Exclusive to presidents and owners of established businesses, the CEO Peer2Peer Groups provide an avenue for sharing insights about challenging situations, topical issues and solutions to problems with peers. Wilson meets with her group once a month.
