2017 Hall of Fame Inductee: Stuart Lasher, Accounting & Finance ’81

Stuart Lasher is founder, chairman and CEO of Tampa-based Quantum Capital Partners, a family office and venture capital firm that invests in consume- related business and real estate. 

Lasher began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick from 1981 to 1986 and he was audit manager for major companies, such as Publix Supermarket and General Mills Restaurant Group, which includes Red Lobster and Olive Garden and Jabil Circuit. From 1986 to 1989, he was CFO and served on the board of directors of Silk Greenhouse, a national retailer. While he was CFO, the company grew from six to 90 stores and from $6 million to $200-million in sales. 

In 1990, Lasher co-founded and served as chairman and CEO of National Business Solutions Inc. (NBS), a professional employer organization based in St. Petersburg, Fla. From 1990 to 1996, NBS grew to one of the largest organizations of its kind in the country, with approximately $300 million in sales. During this period, Lasher held numerous industry positions, including serving as president of the Florida Association of Professional Employer Organizations. 

Lasher and NBS received numerous awards, including being recognized as INC. magazine’s 57th Fastest Growing Company in 1995. The company also was a finalist for the Ernst and Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year for 1995; and winner of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year for 1996. In 1996, Paychex, Inc., acquired NBS, and Lasher remained as CEO of Paychex Business Solutions until 1997.

In 1998, Lasher founded Quantum Capital Partners Inc., and in 1999, Quantum Capital Partners invested in Lifestyle Family Fitness, which, at the time, had six locations and $6 million in annual revenues. From 1999 to 2011, Quantum assisted Lifestyle Family Fitness in the development of a strategic plan and infrastructure, which allowed the company to grow to 56 locations and more than $100 million in annual revenues. Quantum negotiated the sale of Lifestyle Family Fitness clubs to Life Time Fitness and LA Fitness. Lasher served as chairman of the board of Lifestyle from 2008 through the sale.

Lasher serves on the boards of many companies, including Life Time Fitness, PDQ Southern Texas and Fit Life Foods. He also is president of the Lasher Family Foundation, which funds numerous charities in the Tampa Bay area.  He also is co-sponsor of the Derrick Brooks Charities’ annual charity golf event which funds college scholarships to students in need of financial support.  

In addition, Lasher has been an enthusiastic and generous supporter of the college, funding an auditorium in Legacy Hall, and serving as a frequent guest speaker.
