With a resume that reflects impressive business acumen, tireless community service and love for his alma mater, Florida State University College of Business graduate Ronald Dod has been selected as the recipient college’s 2015 Recent Alumni Achievement Award. The award will be presented to Dod, who earned master’s (2012) and bachelor’s (2011) degrees in marketing, Oct. 8 at the college’s Leadership and Scholarship Awards Dinner.

Established in 2011 by the College of Business Recent Alumni Board, the award honors alumni of the past 10 years who have made significant professional and personal achievements.

Dod is founder and CEO of Grey Umbrella Marketing, an internet marketing agency that specializes in search engine optimization for eCommerce businesses. Since its creation in 2012, the Atlanta-based company has consistently seen an annual growth of 300 percent, customer retention of 96 percent and an average of 9-to-1 return on its clients’ investments, Dodd said. He is a thought leader in the search engine optimization field and a much sought-after speaker, most recently presenting at the prestigious Magneto and Ebay Enterprise’s Imagine 2015 Conference.

“Ron’s creativity and entrepreneurial work ethic along with his success in business since graduating from the College of Business are exemplary of a Recent Alumni Achievement Award recipient” said Colin Hickey (FIN ’11, MSF ‘12), a member of the Recent Alumni Board and the selection committee. “His professional achievements, along with his community service, demonstrate what our selection committee is seeking.”

In addition to serving on the boards of a number of professional organizations, such as the Buckhead Business Association, the Buckhead Club (Young Executive Society) and the Business Networking International Buckhead Chapter, Dod has sat on the boards of nonprofits such as Children’s Village of Atlanta, which provides homes for children who do not have a home or who are in dire family-life situations. He was also on the board for the Annual Taste of Buckhead. He is interested in serving on boards or helping nonprofits with a focus on helping children have better futures or helping the homeless get back on their feet.

Charles Hofacker, the Carl DeSantis Professor of Business Administration, is not surprised by Dodd’s achievements. “Ron was in my Business Ethics class in the spring of 2011, and was very engaged and very reliable, so his success in marketing is not a surprise to me.”

Dod credits his education and professors for putting him on the fast track to success. While still an undergraduate student, Dodd took advantage of the College of Business’ Combined Bachelor's/Master's in Marketing (BS/MSM) that allows undergraduates majoring in marketing to start taking graduate coursework.

“From each of my professors, particularly in my master’s classes, I acquired only skills not only relevant to marketing, but also social and critical thinking skills that every professional should have – and that have helped move my career forward very quickly,” Dod said. “Now that I’m interviewing potential employees who are right out of college, I’ve come to really appreciate the solid foundation … I’m really grateful for that.”

The Recent Alumni Board (RAB) comprises a select group of recent College of Business graduates who believe in promoting and assisting with the long-term strategic vision of the college and Florida State University. It was created to strengthen the network between current business students and those who have graduated within the past 15 years by providing an outlet for engagement, relationship building and development.
