Competition is a good thing
Competitions allow students to learn creative problem-solving, collaboration and innovative skills. They also form invaluable mentoring relationships with industry experts. Our students produced stellar results at eight state, national and international competitions this spring.

Social Media Case Competition
Madison Scarcella (MAR ’19) and Haley Walters (MAR ’18) made it to the semi-final round (Top 6 out of 50+ teams) of the Social Media Case Competition at the Center for Advancement of Digital Marketing and Analytics held in April at Ball State University. Their case proposal was a marketing strategy and campaign for Sun King Brewing Company in Indianapolis.

Scotiabank International Case Competition
Competing against international peers, Colleen Kane (MAR and FIN ’19) was a member of the FSU Case Competition team that placed 4th overall at the prestigious Scotiabank International Case Competition held in April at Ivey Business School at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada.

Global Bilingual Sales Competition at FIU
The FSU Bilingual Sales Team did a clean sweep at the Global Bilingual Sales Competition hosted by Florida International University on Feb. 28 to March 2. Veronica Marin (Professional Sales and MAN ’20) took 1st Place in three categories, which included the English, Spanish and the Dual-Language competitions. FSU’s four-person team of Veronica Marin, Angie Mendoza (Professional Sales and MAN ’20) – Top 5 Spanish Competition, Monica Lopez (MAN and Psychology ’19) – Top 10 Spanish Competition and Peter Dodson(Professional Sales and ACG ’19) – 1st Place in the Speed Selling Competition, also placed high enough individually to be named the Overall Top University in competition.

Spring Seminole Case Competition
The 6th annual Spring Seminole Case Competition, held Feb. 27 to March 2, was sponsored by the FSU Case Competition Club and Target Inc. The case, provided by Target, focused on how to improve in-store sales in the apparel brand while growing their digital footprint. The winners were seniors Briana Moya (MAR ’19) and Brooke Zelinsky (MAR and FIN ’19). The panel of judges represented EY, Carr, Riggs and Ingram, North Highland Consulting, Brand Ferland Consulting, the James Madison Institute and Target.

Insurance Sales Challenge
The annual Insurance Sales Challenge, which brings RMI and Professional Sales majors together, tests students’ ability to understand client needs and challenges and offer the best product and service for that client. The winning teams were: Champion Team: Olivia Sinclair (Professional Sales ’19) and Dexter Bell (RMI and MIS ’20); 1st Runner Up Team: Brendan Deegan (Professional Sales and FIN ’20) and Alex Micciche (Professional Sales and RMI ’20); 2nd Runner Up Team: Hannah Robson (Professional Sales and RMI ’19) and Judith Wieland (RMI ’20); 3rd Runner Up Team: Anna McDaniel (Professional Sales ’19) and Kevyn Rametta (RMI ’19); and 4th Runner Up Team: Christopher Radliff (Professional Sales and RMI ’20) and Damian Shull (RMI ’19).

Seminole Sales Showcase
Held each spring and fall, Seminole Sales Showcase is a two-day event featuring a role-play and speed selling competitions, a career fair and an awards luncheon recognizing top performers. The winners for the spring showcase were: Role-Play Competition A: Champion Domonique Rey (Professional Sales ’19) and 1st Runner-Up Ryan Dawson (Professional Sales ’19); Role-Play Competition B: Champion Chase Lendry (Professional Sales & FIN ’19) and 1st Runner-Up Samantha Albert (Professional Sales ’19); Speed Selling Competition: Champion Shannon McGurk (Professional Sales & MAN ’19) and 1st Runner-Up Trevor Wilpon (Professional Sales & MAN ’20).

Annual Bayou Sales Challenge
The FSU Sales Team took 1st Place at the 16th Annual Bayou Sales Challenge hosted by Nicholls State University in Louisiana and held Feb. 27 to March 1. Team members included Samantha Albert (Professional Sales ’19), Blake Boss (Professional Sales ’19) , Ali Guzel (Professional Sales ’19), Chase Lendry (Professional Sales ’19), Hannah Kravec (Professional Sales ’20), Jennica Loveland (Professional Sales ’19) and Domonique Rey (Professional Sales ’19). Samantha Albert also placed 2nd overall in the individual student category and Chase Lendry took 2nd Place in the Pressure Round.

AMA International Collegiate Conference
Members of the American Marketing Association (AMA) student chapter at FSU represented the college at the 41st AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans in April. Taking first place in the Marketing Strategy Competition were Zuzanna Szulc (MAR ’20) and Leah Percal (MAR ’20). Pecal also placed second in the Perfect Pitch Competition. Also for the very first time, the AMA student chapter at FSU is nationally ranked – placing in the Top 15 out of 388 chapters.
