About deciding to major in finance: Coming into college, I did not have much direction in terms of my career path or long-term ambitions. I spent my freshman year trying to find an academic passion, taking classes in a variety of subjects while seeking a major that really captured my attention. During this search, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and suddenly life as we knew it was halted for the foreseeable future. When I returned, I decided to focus on business after learning about its multitude of career paths, opportunities for progression and culture of hard work. I took the introductory courses required to switch into the College of Business and found myself fascinated by the financial services industry. With no family or connections in the industry, I sought to surround myself with like-minded individuals who embodied the ambitions, habits and career interests of the professional that I wanted to be. This led me to joining various on-campus organizations such as the Financial Management Association at FSU. I admired the dedication of the members and knew that I wanted to commit myself to one day achieving a leadership role. By the time I started my senior year, I earned the treasurer position and was ready to put in the work. This opportunity was more valuable than I ever could have imagined, giving me a chance to help students with their professional development, to help host events, to attend corporate tours and much more.
About his experience in the MSF program: After graduating with a finance degree last spring, I entered the Master of Science in Finance program with the goal of refining my technical skills. I also leveraged my previous experience and network I had built to secure a position as private equity intern position with the State Board of Administration of Florida. This internship has given me valuable insights into the world of institutional finance and has allowed me to build relationships with my colleagues that I anticipate will last a lifetime. Once settled into my new role, I figured my leadership and professional experience had put me in a position to give back to my peers. As MSF class president, I now work tirelessly for the betterment of my fellow graduate students and the program while preparing for my future as a professional and contributing to my workplace.
