Edward McIntyre joined the Florida State University College of Business as an assistant professor of accounting in 1970 and achieved the rank of Ernst and Young Professor of Accounting before retiring in 2003. He is widely admired for his dedication to his students, his extensive research and his untiring service to the university and the accounting profession.

His former students remember him as an inspiring, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and encouraging teacher, and for laying a solid foundation that led to their success in the accounting profession or their academic careers.

He was recognized with several teaching awards, including the Beta Alpha Psi Teacher of the Year, the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Professor Award, the College of Business Teaching Award and the FSU Gold Key Faculty Member of the Month Award.

McIntyre’s service to the university and the college included taking on the roles of Master of Accounting (MAcc) coordinator and advisor, chairman of the MAcc Admissions and Scholarship Committee and chairman of the college’s Building Committee for the Rovetta Building Annex. He also served on the FSU Graduate Research Council and was the faculty adviser for Beta Alpha Psi.

A prolific researcher and writer, McIntyre’s articles appeared in top academic journals, including The Accounting Review, Accounting Education, Business Horizons and the Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research.

McIntyre earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Florida and his doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
