Gift planning and donor advising
John Held is the director of development at Florida State University’s College of Business. Prior to joining the development team at FSU, he was the executive director of gift planning at Missouri University of Science and Technology. In this role, he participated in the development, management and planning for a $150 million campaign, Rolla Rising, raising a total of $423 million. He also oversaw the strategic management and evaluation of development officer portfolios and led all aspects of the gift planning program for the university. His career experience includes serving in development roles at two private universities in Iowa and with the Boy Scouts of America.
He is passionate about philanthropy and is dedicated to helping generous donors discover investment opportunities that align their interests with organizations that make a difference.
The father of seven children and six grandchildren, John enjoys his time with family and traveling. Artistically, he enjoys stained glass work and the theater. It is even rumored that he has appeared on the Today Show and was a childhood model.
