Matheus C. Sampaio is an assistant professor in the Department of Finance at Florida State University’s College of Business. His research focuses on the intersection of banking, digital payments and household finance, with a special emphasis on how payment technologies shape financial markets and policy transmission.
Sampaio earned his B.Com in finance from the University of British Columbia, and an M.S. in finance and Ph.D. in finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
From a young age, Sampaio distinguished himself in international mathematics and physics competitions, where he first discovered his passion for academia. For the past decade, he has lived in seven cities across three different countries. A native of Brazil, he is fluent in Portuguese and English, with intermediate proficiency in Spanish.
