What brought you to FSU?
The professional and human quality of the faculty and the reputation of the college made it easy to choose FSU. I'm thrilled – and grateful – to be here.

What courses do you teach at FSU?
I teach Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ENT 3003), which is critical for society and the economy. It’s great to see the amount of enthusiasm my students put into this class. I also teach Strategic Management (MAN 4720), which is about discovering what makes a firm successful, exploring the range of options available to firms of all sizes and weighing the pros and cons. It's about the long term, developing a vision and understanding the sources of competitive advantage. It's thrilling to be teaching this course because the competitive landscape changes constantly.

What does your research focus on, and why is it important to you?
I do community research focused on how organizations – such as nonprofits, corporations and community banks – shape the sustainable development of their local communities. I’m also interested in how organizations balance financial and community goals, and how they address these competing demands. More recently, I’ve been focusing my research on corporate misconduct by studying how wrongdoing hurts not only guilty firms, but also affects innocent firms in the industry.

Why should students consider studying management?
In a world of increasing complexity and technological development, it’s becoming clear that generalists – those with a broad range of knowledge and experience – are better able to adapt than hyper-focused specialists. Management is by definition a generalist discipline that draws on diverse, specialized knowledge to provide a comprehensive view of organizations. Do you have interests in areas such as strategy, psychology, entrepreneurship and HR? Then management may be the smartest career choice.

What is something students might be surprised to learn about you?
First, I'm originally from Argentina, so I have strong opinions about barbecue and soccer (football). I must admit that there are very good barbecue restaurants here in Tallahassee, so I can't complain. Second, I like non-digital activities. I play guitar, enjoy cooking and try to spend as much time as possible outdoors, especially during the weekend. In this hyper-connected culture, non-digital hobbies are more vital than ever.
