What are your primary job responsibilities?

I am responsible for the overall management and profitability of a $150M USD GWP global (excluding the U.S. and Canada) book of casualty (D&O, E&O, Fidelity CGL, Umbrella, Medical Malpractice and XS Commercial Auto).

Why did you choose the MS-RMI Program at FSU?

To continue to learn and strengthen my weaknesses to become a more well-rounded executive in the re/insurance and risk management field.

How did your graduate education help shape your professional experiences?

Through the program, I improved my academic and theoretical knowledge of the areas of business that today are beyond my day-to-day responsibilities. I also improved my understanding of the risk transfer/retention process from the perspective of those charged with an organization’s enterprise and strategic risk management.

How has working in your industry changed the way you look at the world?

Working in re/insurance has allowed me truly to think beyond the borders of the U.S. I have traveled around the world for work: LAC, APAC, MEA, Europe and the UK. During my career, I have worked directly on the same team with a diverse group of people from places like Argentina, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, England, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Spain, Venezuela and, of course, the U.S. I also have lived in Argentina, Mexico and Puerto Rico and have done extended stays in Brazil and London. My extensive work and life experience outside the U.S. provided me with an international perspective that not many people have.

How have you stayed connected to the FSU MS-RMI Program?

I follow the program on Linkedin, and I try to get involved through initiatives such as this one.

What’s your favorite source for keeping up with industry news?

I like Advisen, Business Insurance and the Insurance Insider. I also follow industry reports from analysts at AM Best, Fitch and Moody’s. D&O is the class of business where I got my start in the industry, so I closely follow the D&O Diary.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t do without at work?

A stand up desk!

What keeps you awake at night?

My to-do list!
