College promotes SLC for Giving Tuesday

October 21, 2021

The College of Business Student Leadership Council gives.

It gives to the college’s students, alumni and faculty members through an array of events and programs that help students launch careers in business.

As in previous years, the College of Business plans a Giving Tuesday drive to give back to the SLC. The national movement promotes giving – and generosity in all forms – on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which this year falls on Nov. 30.

Last year, the College of Business set a goal of $3,000 and raised $6,795 for the SLC. This year it aims for $3,500.

“We genuinely appreciate and honor the work and dedication of our Student Leadership Council, which delivers on our mission to, among other things, create life-changing opportunities for our students,” said Michael Hartline, dean of the College of Business. “The SLC positively affects all of our students, alumni, faculty and staff, and we see Giving Tuesday as a way to call attention to the crucial work of the exemplary students who serve in this terrific organization.”

“What they do impacts the entire student body,” said Marissa Mainwood, the college’s director of student engagement. “Their events and programs are open to all College of Business students, and they are focused very much on professional development, networking and leadership – crucial components for any successful business student.”

The college’s Giving Tuesday efforts for the SLC have been “very successful over the last few years,” Mainwood said. The fundraising “helps provide seed money for all of the programs and events they spearhead.”
